SUMMARY:2 October Speaker - Leigh Anne Richards\, discusses helping individuals with Parkinson's Disease
DESCRIPTION:Join us Thursday as we host Leigh Anne Richards addressing Parkinson’s Disease and how exercise can help patients with the disease. \nFall is in the air\, and October’s theme is health\, which is relevant as we consider getting vaccinated for the flu and possibly the latest COVID-19 shot. However\, before we delve into a discussion about that on October 16th\, let’s consider exercise\, specifically what it can do for those with Parkinson’s. Leigh Ann Richard has experience in this area and has made a career of helping others maintain their physical fitness. Her bio\, below\, (edited) shows a passion for avoiding premature aging through exercise. \nLeigh Anne Richard was born in Hartselle\, Alabama. She grew up in Fayette\, Alabama\, attended Fayette High School\, and received her B.S. degree in elementary education from Mississippi State University. \nIn 1987\, she moved to Montgomery. She transitioned from teaching elementary school to pursue her passion for group fitness\, earning her certification in 1988. She attended AUM and earned her Master of Education Degree in exercise science\, subsequently working as an adjunct professor in the kinesiology department at AUM. \nShe was a part-owner of Metro Fitness and initially served as the group fitness coordinator before she became the General Manager. After Metro closed in 2020\, she began working for the YMCA as a group fitness instructor. She helped coordinate the Rock Steady Boxing Program for individuals with Parkinson’s. \nShe teaches a variety of classes\, including cycling\, cardio\, and her favorite class\, Muscle Mix. She is passionate about teaching women about weights. Most of her classes are at the Wilson YMCA. However\, she is now back “home” at Pepper Tree Y. The Rock Steady program is done at Bell Road. \nShe credits yoga for helping with mobility as she ages. She loves being part of the YMCA staff and the opportunity to make new friends. \nLeigh Anne is married to her high school sweetheart\, Mike. They have one daughter\, Elizabeth\, and a granddaughter\, Stella. She is a devoted Auburn sports fan\, especially football! War Eagle!

SUMMARY:3 April Speaker: Wade Lyles\, Director of Montgomery's Emergency Management Agency
DESCRIPTION:Join us this week as we hear from Montgomery’s EMA Director Wade Lyles. \nMost emergencies or disasters are handled at the local level without state or federal assistance and\, although the Montgomery City/County EMA is best known for its severe weather assistance and preparedness programs\, emergency management is so much more. An emergency management program examines potential emergencies and disasters based on the risks posed by likely hazards; develops and implements programs aimed toward reducing the impact of these events on the community; prepares for those risks that cannot be eliminated; and prescribes the actions required to deal with the consequences and the recovery from those events when they occur. \nThe mission of the Montgomery City/County EMA is to serve the residents of Montgomery through effective planning to minimize the effects of all disasters. EMA manages and coordinates efforts toward a rapid recovery from disasters and is committed to effective actions to prevent the disasters we can and to reduce the impact of those over which we have no control.
